Charles and his big day

Charles Wilson is a fishing addict who decided that he would like to give kayak fishing a try, he had never been in a kayak before and he had never caught a Striped Bass. This was the perfect opportunity to introduce him to the sport and hopefully add some trophy's to his bucket list. After lunch we headed out to the launch. After some instruction in basic kayak safety and technique we headed out on the water.

The day was good, light wind that was blowing in the right direction for some drift runs and very little boat traffic. we baited up and started trolling our bait where I thought some stripped bass would be hanging out. Then WHAM!, Charles' line get hammered, his kayak turns 180 and begins to accelerate away. I was thinking he had hung a fresh water Marlin by the rate he was being pulled. This was his first sleigh ride, and man was that thing pulling him. I caught up with him just as he was getting it yakside. Helped him get it in the yak, Charles was so pumped up that I thought that he was going to try to do a victory lap with burnouts in his yak! You could not wipe that smile off his face for the rest of the day.

We tried another area that usually holds a few, with no success, so we moved back to the same area that the first fish had been caught in. then WHAM! Charles gets hit again. This one did not give the free ride that the first one did but put up a good fight.

Charles landed two spotted bass also. What a day of firsts for Charles! First kayak ride, first sleigh ride, First Striper. I believe it will not be his last, by the way he was talking I believe he will soon join the ranks of the Plastic Navy.

Awesome job Charles! This is why I do what I do, for the love of the sport and to give to others the enjoyment I get out of it.

Tight Lines,
Walt
